Sean Leather  > Travel > Postel Abbey & Eersel, February 2008
I joined an ING excursion to the Postel Abbey located in Mol, Belgium, on Saturday, 23 February. We toured the abbey and sampled the Postel cheese and Postel beer. Then, we visited a small village, Eersel, Netherlands for a walk around the center.

Sean Leather > Trees, some tall and feathered, other cut off at every branch. I'm not sure what the point of the latter type is.
Sean Leather > After our coffee, we gathered around the leader to get ready for our tour of the abbey.

Sean Leather > We had to split into 2 groups, one led by an English-speaking guide, the other by a Flemish-speaking one. Florentina here was more intelligent and went with the former.
Sean Leather > Our tour guide here seemed like a very nice lady. She spoke very clear and well enunciated Flemish. (Flemish is not too different from Dutch, though the sounds are much more pleasing to the ears.) The only problem: a number of us couldn't understand her, because we know little Dutch/Flemish. At best, I picked up on the numbers: years, periods of time, etc.
Sean Leather > This sign gives the timeline of the abbey. You can at least pick out the years here. For example, the church was first built in 1138. But beyond that, I think a bunch of other stuff happened.
Sean Leather > This is a crucifix with various information attached below.
Sean Leather > Our guide mentioned the de Broqueville family, so I figured this must be interesting material and snapped this engraving. And, as a matter of fact (no surprise), it turns out that Charles de Broqueville was an important person (e.g. prime minister during WWI) in Belgium, and he was born here.
Sean Leather > In the abbey, there lies a church. On this church is the steeple shown here.
