Costa Rica, November 2007, Day 1 and Day 2 - Page 7 - Sean Leather's Photos

Elizabeth and I visited Costa Rica for two weeks. This is the first two days of that trip. We flew from Austin (me) and St. Louis (Elizabeth) to Dallas/Fort Worth, then flew to Juan Santamaría. We stayed overnight with my friend Kelly, and she took us to the University for Peace and around downtown San José.

Sean Leather > We're on the bus to San José with Kelly and Emily, her friend and classmate from UPeace.

Sean Leather > Once we arrived in San José, we went to the Mercado Central ("Central Market"). It was founded in 1880.

Sean Leather > Emily bought a little lamb from the Mercado.

Sean Leather > A lady gave Elizabeth a flower which she stuck in her backpack. The Mercado Central holds a wide variety of stuff.

Sean Leather > These animal figures are some of the things you can find at the Mercado.

Sean Leather > In San José, we often saw construction occurring in the middle of road. Notice how the pedestrian traffic is still pretty heavy and there's no barrier between people and the work.This is a typical scene in Costa Rica: If you fall down a hole and break your neck, you're screwed. In the US, they are sometimes on the opposite end of the scale: Stay 100 ft away from the rope or we'll sue.
