I spent 6 days in South Africa with Darshana. We saw sights in Pretoria, Kruger National Park, and the surrounding area.

Sean Leather > Of course, my trip has to start out with a photo at an airport. This is Charles de Gaulle International. When I got there, my next flight to Johannesburg was not on the screen that told people which line to get into for immigration. I looked around and joined a very long line that seemed to be where most people were going. There was nobody around to ask, the desks were crowded with people and busy, and so I stood there for a while. Finally, an airport employee came over to my line to answer questions. Of course, she told me I had to find this other very long line instead. Fortunately, the rest of the CDG experience was a breeze.
Sean Leather > Upon arriving in "Joburg" and greeting Darshana, my hostess took me to see the University of Pretoria (UP), her alma mater. This is the main library (Merensky Library for Mom's sake) and an interesting looking building. If you look closely at the entrance, you'll notice two descriptions above the doors. The one on the left says "AKADEMIESE INLIGTINGSENTRUM," and on the right is "ACADEMIC INFORMATION CENTRE." This and every building on the UP campus is labeled in both Afrikaans and English, two of South Africa's 11 official languages.
Sean Leather > After seeing the UP main campus, we went to the Pretoria National Botanical Garden and had a picnic lunch. As lovely as ever, Darshana could not wipe that smile off her face.
Sean Leather > We later walked around various trails in the Botanical Garden. It was quite a nice place. This man-made waterfall added a pleasant touch.
Sean Leather > Darshana is leading me through a trail up a hill in the Botanical Garden.
Sean Leather > Being a Garden, there were plenty of flowers. As usual, I don't know what any of them are. Please leave a comment if you know.
