Postel Abbey & Eersel, February 2008 - Page 3

I joined an ING excursion to the Postel Abbey located in Mol, Belgium, on Saturday, 23 February. We toured the abbey and sampled the Postel cheese and Postel beer. Then, we visited a small village, Eersel, Netherlands for a walk around the center.

Sean Leather > The church has a number of stained-glass windows such as this one.

Sean Leather > The church is small but nice inside. All of what you see here was originally built by the Romans. Other parts (not shown) were later modified or added.

Sean Leather > The monks who live in the abbey keep a large herb garden. It's most famous for its Ginseng.

Sean Leather > Each plant has a sign with it's common name, scientific name, and description. This is peppermint.

Sean Leather > A pair of dogs guarded the herb garden from the dangerous tourists.

Sean Leather > A small, budding plant with a pond in the background.

Sean Leather > The monks extract herbal remedies from the plants. I don't know if they still do this, but these are sample bottles for the drugs.
